There are a number of address validation examples on the web. These include partial, post-entry, type-ahead, and geocoding. The latter methods are often used to verify an address before sending a package to it. In some cases, it's necessary to verify an address with a service like USPS to make sure it's valid. For other instances, an incorrect or missing street name or address can lead to problems.

Address verification uses five different kinds of fuzzy logic to ensure that the data in an address is correct. The first is called the "fuzzy logic," and it accounts for a variety of errors, including spelling mistakes, switched letters, and missing words or letters. Another method is called parsing, and it involves breaking down the address into its constituent parts (house number, street name, town, and postal code). These elements are then grouped using contextual rules.

The second method is called type-ahead verification. The user simply types the address into a single field. As they type, suggestions are offered to them. Then, a click on one of these suggestions will provide them with the complete address. Inline validation checks the validity of data input on the form, which reduces the rate at which users abandon forms. Using address verification can improve the customer experience, reduce costs, and improve business efficiency.
